So after seemingly a 3 month gap where I was working on a music video (which I'm still waiting to show off), doing some freelance work, working in an awesome VFX studio making educational motion graphic videos (which I also can't show off), and some random 3D models, I re-watched the short-lived animated series, Megas XLR. A fantastic and funny show about a lazy geek who has the good fortune of getting himself a giant robot from the future. What's not to love?
There was a particular scene in one of the episodes where an Alien Gun-ship activates a big lazer which takes about 20 seconds to extent and assemble itself in an overly complicated fashion. I always loved this joke whenever I saw it in a show and wanted to give it a go myself.
This month, I went and made an animated loop of an army of Tuborg cans, simply as another test of Blender's cycles engine and a silly joke that went a bit too far.
I then had the idea of taking this animation, adding a remix I made of an Irish Jig from Final Fantasy VIII and sending it to a bunch of studios and friends as a St. Patrick's Day card.
I really enjoy syncing up animation with music, makes for a fun project. They take that bit longer then a single illustrations but they're so worth it.
So I haven't updated this blog since January 2013, with the reason being that I made my own website and a Facebook page. But the lack of work here looks as if I died in February last year so I'm going to make a series of posts now to serve as a catch up. I organise all my work on my PC to the month I made it so I'm gonna make a post for each month. while time stamping this one with February from last year...with any luck this wont create a paradox that'll collapse reality.
Also the fact that the stats for the blog showed that I had 11,000 views here overall encouraged me. Thank you, especially the people who came here in the last year to find nothing.
So I recently got myself a lovely new graphics card and decided to test it out by rendering a turnaround animation of my Benson model. Check it out in HD!
YOU'RE FIRED!!!
Also, aside from re-rendering the angles I already had along with a wire pass, my intention was to make a nice "beauty" Render of Benson as well. So I decided to give it a go.
I can see myself doing a few of these kinds of animations and pictures in future.
So I watched Troll Hunter a while bag and drew a picture of a Troll standing in a queue at the social welfare office. I began to jazz it up and paint it in Photoshop when commisioned work got in the way (which is never a bad thing)leaving it sitting in my Pending Projects folder. So last week I went back and finished it. I'm really happy with how it turned out, and a few of the techniques I got to try out/learn to make it.
I decided today that I was sick of having the only version of my short film online being a low quality vimeo clip which didn't fill the entire screen space due to some dodgy rendering/transcoding. So I went back to the TGA sequence I had rendered and brought it back into After Effects with the mixed down sound. Added in a vignette and fiddled with the colours slightly. Made it massive, rendered it out at full quality and put it on youtube.
Here it is!
You best be full-screening at 1080p!
I've a plan in the works for it which I hope to talk about on here soon. For now I'm happy to take a trip back to last year and wonder what the hell was I thinking.
So I had a bit of downtime between two game related animation projects (of which I hope to have videos here soon) and found myself getting back into Zbrush. I decided to sculpt something simple and iconic while giving it a slight bit of my own potentially NSFW twist, though not going too mad until my competence with Zbrush improves.
I'm afraid I got massively into Pokémon when I was younger, and the obsession appears to have lay dormant within me. That or maybe I just love how this guy used to say his name in the show. KOFFING!!!
Fullscreen & HD!!
The nice thing about working on this was learning about the movie options within Zbrush. There are a heap of additional features in this program that I'm dying to try out. One feature in particular being DYNAMESH which allows you to combine meshes for more complex objects to begin sculpting on.
So I was really able to put it to the test with my next sculpt...Koffing's one and only evolution...WEEZING
Fullscreen & HD, AGAIN!!
These were a lot of fun to make so I can forsee many many more. Probably getting more bizzare as time goes on.
So I was recently contacted to make a trailer for this years Kinopolis Polish Film Festival. A great festival showcasing Polish films and animations along with talks with actors and directors and all sorts. Unfortunately I only managed to make the trailer and not attend as I was preparing a costume for a DJ set at an Anime Convention. Which I'm also hoping to post pictures of up on this blog.
Nevertheless lots of projects on the go at the moment and sworn to secrecy on the lot of them!
